San Cristóbal de las Casas is the heart of Chiapas Highlands. It is one of the most beautiful cities in Mexico. A living expression of Mexican and Central American Art.
The city is an artistic balance of red tiled-roofs, balconies, flowered patios, and a provincial interpretation of the neoclssic and baroque style.
San Cristobal de las Casas, founded in 1528 by Diego de Mazariegos, was first named "Ciudad Real" (Royal City). The actual name comes from San Cristobal Mártir and its first bishop, Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas, "The Defender of the Indians".
Location: San Cristobal is 50.8 miles (82 km) from Tuxtla Gutierrez on road 190
